SEI Design/Build Sponsors Team in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

SEI Design/Build sponsored the Angels of Music (AOM) Team, which participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on June 7, 2008 in Washington, D.C.

This was the third year the AOM Team joined in the three-mile walk. Patti Oehmke, one of the owners of SEI Design/Build, was a member of the Team along with her daughter, Riki, age 14. Riki’s best friend, Shannon, lost her mother to breast cancer in 2005. In the photo, Riki is kneeling in front of Shannon at far left. The Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure was a 5k walk/run on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. with a goal of raising $3,000,000 towards ending breast cancer. As of June 12, $3,050,973 has been raised. SEI Design/Build Supports Kathy DeFloria’s Mission to Guatemala

Steve Perlik and Patti Oehmke, owners of SEI Design/Build, attended a recent fundraising fiesta hosted by Kathy DeFloria, to support the Guatemala Stove Project and her upcoming mission trip with the Project. The Guatemala Stove Project seeks to eliminate the health problems suffered by indigent Guatemalan women and children who use unventilated fire pits dug into dirt floors of their meager homes as the only source of heating and cooking. Kathy leaves in July for a 5-week volunteer mission in Guatemala to assist in an effort to help build elevated, vented, masonry cook stoves. She will be living with host families, and working through physically challenging 60-mile hikes in the mountains of Guatemala. The fiesta, featuring Central American cuisine, provided an opportunity for Kathy DeFloria and her family to showcase the whole-house remodel designed and built by SEI Design/Build in 2007. All donations collected at the event go towards building materials and the payment of stonemasons in Guatemala. For more information about this worthy cause, visit
