This project began with the  home-owner’s desire for a minor kitchen remodel with a simple screened porch for outdoor dining. The existing kitchen and eating area were very confined, poorly fitted and closed off from the exterior with no views or natural light.

Initially, they were not planning on remodeling the kitchen in a major way, and were determined to reuse the 20-year-old cabinets and appliances. They soon realized the real potential during the design phase. We suggested opening the kitchen to a lovely casual dining/family room that would lead to the screened porch. As the design evolved, a side entry porch, mudroom, custom deck and extra large pantry were added to the design. This project was clearly going to transform their lives.

The entire space was detailed to draw the eye to the outdoors. The kitchen addition incorporated an interesting combination of custom windows and vaulted ceilings to take maximum advantage of views. The very private backyard, with meadows, mature trees and rolling terrain, can now be enjoyed in its year round splendor.

The open design continues into the dining room. The wall between the kitchen and dining room was replaced with elegant arches and columns. Views of the gardens in the front yard can now be seen through the dining room window from the kitchen.

The kitchen cabinetry is extraordinary, finished in a custom cream glaze, and displays the homeowner’s cherished heirloom china. The island features turned posts at the corners emulating a fine piece of custom furniture. Additionally, the Siberian Blue Eyes granite countertops delight the homeowners as the spots of iridescence in the stone catches the natural light that pours into the once-dark kitchen.

The owner’s initial desire for outdoor dining off the kitchen was achieved with the stylish screened porch. They enjoy this space so much that they use it as a sleeping porch on balmy nights! This exceptionally remodeled home tastefully integrates the outdoors with the interior and provides great pleasure for the homeowners.
