Alcove Tokonoma Pillar

A traditional honorary alcove in Japanese architecture is anchored by the Tokobashira, an alcove pillar of a perfectly formed cedar trunk, stripped of its bark to reveal vertical ripples induced by binding the young tree with small twigs.
